DIY - Sparky New Year's Eve Banner

Now that Christmas is over, it's time to start thinking about the New Year! Here's a fast and easy to make sparkly banner tutorial to help ring in the New Year in style.
Supplies:
1. Glue gun and glue.
2. Sparkly string or ribbon.
3. Glittery papers.
4. Sequins, Cabochons, or other sparkly nick-knacks.
5. Star shaped paper punch.

1- Using glittery paper, or gift wrap, cut long strips in different lengths.
2- Wrap the strips around a pencil to "curl" them. If they need help staying curled, use a glue gun to glue the curls in place.

3- Use your star shaped paper punch to punch out glitter star shapes.
4- Gather sparkly cabochons, and other decorations found at your local craft shop.

5- Cut different size triangle shapes from out of your sparkly paper.
6- Use your hot glue gun to glue each shape to your sparkly string or ribbon.
7- Hang & Celebrate!

DIY Wooden New Years Eve Banner Tutorial

Christmas is less than one week away. Which means New Years is less than 2 weeks away. I don't have very many New Years Eve decorations, so I decided to add this Sparkly Happy New Year Banner to my small collection.
First I started with this DIY Wooden Happy New Year Banner Kit from Say Hello.
Other supplies you'll need include:
Paint, Glitter, Modge Podge, hairspray, a foam paint brush, and a string to hang the banner from.
For my paint, I used The Champagne Gold color from DecoArt®. It's my favorite paint color ever, and I think it makes a great base color for this project. Of course you can always choose another color. Black, Silver, or Mulit-Colors would look great for this New Years banner.

I painted one thin coat of paint on each letter. It looked nice. You could leave the glitter out if you like a smooth finish, but I wanted to add glitter to my banner.

Next I added a thick layer of Modge Podge to each letter. Then I dumped a generous amount of glitter on top of the still well modge podge. I did one letter at a time, so that the modge podge would stay nice and wet. After dumping the excess glitter back into my glitter stash, I used some hairspray to spray each letter to keep the glitter in place.

Next, I put some modge podge into a separate bowl. Using my sponge brush I dapped a generous amount of modge pode to each letter. Do not rub, just dab. Don't worry about your letters turning white, it will dry clear in about an hour. This step prevents the glitter from falling off and making a mess. While you wait for the Modge Podge to dry, use a toothpick or tip of a safety pin to poke through each hole and clear out the gunk. This will make threading your twine through each letter easier.

Lastly, I measured my area where I wanted to hang my banner and cut some bakers twine to fit the measurements. The letters were easy to slide onto the twine. I used some clear 3m hooks that I found at Target to hang my banner to my fireplace mantel.

Step back and enjoy your banner! Happy New Year!

Sleigh Riding at Homestead in Midway Utah

We thought it would be fun to go cut down a Christmas tree this year. My cousin told us about a place where they take you on a sleigh ride up in the mountains and help you cut down a tree. Sadly, we never found that place, but my sister-in-law found a fun group sleigh ride for us to take at Homestead Resort in Midway, Utah.

It was a very cold day, but it was so beautiful & we were all bundled up, so we didn't really notice how cold it was.

At the end of our ride, we were able to get our picture taken with Santa. The girls had so much fun!

If you give a pig a party

If you give a pig a party, she'll want to invite a friend like you.

We're inviting family over to help celebrate my daughters birthday this week.
She loves pigs!
